Bringing the Spirit of Tulum to Miami

Tulum Villa is an Airbnb interior design project in Miami, created to transport guests into a different rhythm from the moment they arrive.

The concept was inspired by the soulful atmosphere of Tulum: its connection to nature, handcrafted textures, earthy colors, organic simplicity, and the quiet sense of freedom that defines the destination.

Rather than recreating Tulum literally, the design translated its essence into a contemporary Miami vacation rental. Natural fibers, warm woods, woven lighting, terracotta tones, artisanal objects, and soft textiles come together to create an experience that feels relaxed, sensory, and deeply connected to the earth.

The Challenge

The existing property had generous potential, but it needed a stronger identity, improved circulation, and a clearer relationship between its interior and outdoor spaces.

The design process began by studying how guests would arrive, move, gather, rest, and connect throughout the villa. Every decision—from opening the kitchen and modifying walls to selecting finishes and imagining new amenities—was made through the lens of hospitality and the Airbnb guest experience.

The intention was to transform a Miami property into a memorable escape: a place that could make guests feel as though they had traveled somewhere entirely different without leaving the city.

Behind the Space

Behind the final atmosphere was a detailed process of space planning and design development.

The architectural proposal explored modifications to the kitchen, closets, bathrooms, flooring, stairs, and interior walls. Materials, paint colors, lighting, furniture, and decorative elements were selected to create visual continuity while giving every area its own emotional character.

The outdoor master plan introduced a sand area, deck and jacuzzi, hammocks and fire pit, children’s zone, game room, spa, and new social experiences around the pool.

Together, these spaces were conceived to offer different ways of inhabiting the property—from quiet moments of rest to shared experiences with family and friends.

A Cultural and Sensory Narrative

The Tulum concept was expressed through color, natural materials, symbolic details, and references to Mexican culture.

The entrance became a vibrant moment of arrival, combining decorative plates, woven hats, natural fibers, and handcrafted objects. Customized walls and graphic messages gave the villa a recognizable personality, while the Frida Kahlo Bar concept transformed an underused area into a social and photographable destination.

These details were not added as decoration alone. They were designed to tell a story, create emotional connection, and give the Miami Airbnb an identity guests could recognize and remember.

Five Rooms, Five Ways to Rest

Each of the five bedrooms was designed as its own refuge.

Natural fibers, woven lighting, soft linens, earthy palettes, and handcrafted details create a common sense of calm throughout the villa. Individual color stories and symbolic references give every room a distinct personality while preserving the cohesion of the overall interior.

The goal was to make rest feel like part of the travel experience: intimate, grounding, and connected to the natural world.

Designing What Guests Remember

For an Airbnb, beauty is only one part of the experience. A successful vacation rental must also create moments guests want to photograph, share, and remember.

Textured ceilings, meaningful walls, artisanal lighting, poolside experiences, and carefully composed social areas were developed to strengthen the villa’s visual identity and emotional impact.

Every detail had a purpose: to increase comfort, encourage connection, elevate the property’s presence, and turn a stay in Miami into an immersive experience inspired by Tulum.

The Final Experience

Created by Andrea Espinal Studio, Tulum Villa brings together Miami Airbnb interior design, hospitality strategy, space planning, and storytelling.

From the first spatial studies to the final styling, the project reveals the invisible architecture behind a memorable stay: circulation, materiality, light, culture, emotion, and intention.

Tulum Villa is proof that design can transport us. It can take the soul of one destination and allow it to bloom somewhere entirely new.
